She

A forever of never.
It’s all about the possibilities,
life,
the might-have-beens,
the could-still-bes.
Eternal promises,
forever nows,
the stuff of fantasy.
For what is forever,
promises never,
for all the maybe-sometime,
never-now.

Glittering

7 October, 2010 at 23:17 (Uncategorized)

I have never seen a diamond
I would never want to
they sparkle, or so I hear
like a child’s drawing
bespoilt with silver.
I much prefer your smile,
it glitters
much as glass does,
or cracks across ice.
Like some frosty jack
skating across my window,
your smile glitters.
In a sparkle where
are the cracks of life
and the subjects that must
remain untouched
where are those carefully
coiling disasters
that taste so much sweeter
than an emptily worded
happily
ever
after.

I am a dog barking in the street
and always have been,
from the start whispering to myself
promises about you, never kept.

I am a dog barking, loudly swearing,
to savage the man who made you cry,
another promise I never kept
along with the one
to be silent when you walked by.

I am a dog barking in the street,
whispering promises to myself
that I have never kept and never will,
loud declarations to defend your life
and endangering it instead.

A dog, barking in the street,
for no one would take it home
without a bite to follow through on the bark.
