You say it’s all a language game,
But what, exactly is a game?
Let’s not get onto that,
spinning like planets around each other
walking down a road.
A reference here, a reference there,
Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra
Something more appropriate
as we keep on spinning,
a half smile on your lips.
We keep missing the point,
bound by tongues,
minds trapped in our words.
Our eyes never quite
on the same thing
at the same time.
A game then, and I like to hear you speak,
but the language always misses
my own and the rules to the game
I never knew.
So whoever we are,
let we be them still
and for all our tongues trying
we have continued to spin around.
The road shows our footprints in the dust
coming close and spinning round,
never quite touching in our play.

Too many battles picked
Too many battles
and I am ripped in two or more
by what the world has in store
but there are springs
like this spring
there are oases in this desert
there are eyes in this hurricane.

It’s Happening Again

18 April, 2010 at 19:15 (Uncategorized)

Do you remember when?
Do you remember when?
There were days, when to see you was enough.
Those days were tough, though I didn’t know it.
To see you, to touch you,
the days when
we’d climb the stairs to my room
and be quite consumed
by touch
and fire,
and love.
Do you remember when?
There were days when you’d hurtle by
beneath the bluest sky
and I would breathe you in,
only beginning to know you and feel at home.
Only beginning to feel your eyes
roam where they would,
and my breast, like all the rest
responds
and sings,
and sighs.
Do you remember when?
Do you remember when?
It’s happening again.
To see you is enough,
and this?
Is only love.

Your Eyes

17 April, 2010 at 22:53 (Uncategorized)

I walked in to that room
knowing I would never see
that look in your eyes
again.

Whispered in the dark
between the sheets

I was wrong.
There you were
and you glanced up
as I walked in
and there was that look
in your eyes
that I had longed to see.

Kisses shared
beneath heated blankets

We smiled in a second
and I left you
kissing her
smiling
because
in the second of that look
that I had longed to see
you
were kissing me.

I am bound and waiting
For I can speak and feel
with the other side
until you come
and I am called
to be where I have promised.

Today

I can see the castle walls,
I can see them as they will be
on that day
And your eyes
puzzled by me
puzzled by everything I say
I can see them
in the window of those walls.

Peter at the gate,
is not the right Peter
and the key he holds
I will refuse.

I can see the walls,
whitewashed sandstone
by tradition
and I can see you
raise your arm to wave.

I can see the grasses
a little way outside
and the look in you eyes
as if to say
please use the key
and the door it says
‘All may enter’
and the gateway says
‘Few may leave’.

I can see the walls
I can see your wave
and it’s all that I can do
not to enter,
but if I did
I would not be me.

On the days we do not
understand each other
on the days
when you look at me
so puzzled,

those are the days
I see the castle coming
and I dread
it’s sandstone,
whitewashed walls,
in a way that has nothing
to do with denial of creation,
in a way that has nothing
to do with a refusal to believe.

Those days are to do
with things, purely personal,
and
are days
like today.
