Nothing More

Do you remember when we heard him humming in the kitchen?
Do you remember when he started to sing,
Do you remember how I suddenly understood domestic bliss…
and now there’s nothing left but this,
do you remember how you eyes met mine?
Do you remember how we strode out, along the spine,
but that was long after things had ceased to be fine.
I remember how it felt,
to come home to you,
to curl up in your eyes on a sofa that felt like ours,
and I remember how I suddenly understood how home,
was supposed to feel when it has family in it.
Do you remember when we heard him start to sing in the kitchen?
It has been a long time,
and I wish I could come home,
but that’s all gone now,
and we didn’t even get a cat.
