I Like This Life
It occurs to me, in the middle of a hug,
That this life, is really rather good,
That I really could not imagine a better day spent,
Than one with those I love in flirtation and argument,
I think that when the time comes for me to die,
I’ll want to remember the conversation, the glances eye to eye,
Of this afternoon and others like it,
Of icing, cakes, tea and friends,
So when I’m wrinkled, in some nursing home, fat and old,
These are the images I want with me in the end.
